Further increase in new listings for September

September’s letting market data from the Agency Express Property Activity Index, has revealed a further increase in the number of new listings across the UK.

National month on month figures for new listings ‘To Let’ sat at 0.90%, but figures for properties ‘Let’ fell for a second consecutive month at -2.80%.

However, looking at the index’s rolling three monthly data figures remain down with new listings ‘To Let’ at -1.90% and properties ‘Let’ -1.20%.

Across the UK, seven of the twelve regions recorded by the Property Activity Index reported increases in new listings ‘To Let’ and five reported increases in properties ‘Let’.

This month’s top performer was the North East. Following a slumber market in August, lettings activity bounced back returning robust figures in both new listings ‘To Let’ at 17.80% and properties ‘Let’ at 20.90%. Wales followed suit reporting a record best increase in properties ‘Let’ during September, sitting at 18.6%.

Other regional hotspots included:

Properties ‘To Let’

  • South West 8.40%
  • North West 7.10%
  • East Midlands 6.40%
  • East Anglia 4.40%

Properties ‘Let’

  • Wales 18.60%
  • East Anglia 9.20%
  • West Midlands 1.70%
  • East Midlands 1.70%

The largest declines in this month’s index were recorded in Scotland. Month on month data shows new listings ‘To Let’ sitting at -17.90% and properties ‘Let’ at -16.20%. Looking over the Property Activity Index’s historical records we can see the declines made in September 2017 are greater than those recorded in 2016 and 2015.

Commenting on the Property Activity Index Lettings Report, Stephen Watson Managing Director of Agency Express said: This month we have witnessed some growth across the UK lettings market. One or two regional pockets have reported record bests while others performed consistently. The index’s rolling three monthly data does show that we are still recovering from the slower pace experienced during June and July, but as we move in to October we would hope to see further increases.
