Further growth for February

2015’s buoyant trend continues as the Property Activity Index highlighted further growth for the UK property market during February.  National figures revealed by the index show substantial increases in both new listings ‘For Sale’ rising by 35.7% and properties ‘Sold’ rising by 53.7%. Although an increase during this period is expected,  figures for properties ‘Sold’ have grown vastly reporting the largest rise in sales since February 2014. While figures for February 2015 are robust when analysing the Property Activity Index’s year on year data national figures still remain down compared to those recorded in 2014.

Looking at performance across the rest of the UK, all 12 regions recorded by the Property Activity Index reported increases in both new listings ‘For Sale’ and properties ‘Sold’.  Notable increases were made by the East Midlands who recorded a rise of 58.20% in new listings ‘For Sale’ and 74.50% in properties ‘Sold’. Scotland closely followed suit recording a rise of 62.80% in properties ‘Sold’ and  58.00% in new properties coming on to the market.

Promising figures were also recorded for Yorkshire and Humberside. In January the region made its first increase in both properties ‘Sold’ and new listings ‘For Sale’ in 6 months. Throughout February this trend continued rising by 55.7%, but again was down against figures recorded in 2014.  The upward trend continued in to the North East with significant increases made on properties ‘Sold’ rising  by 79.4%, marking the regions first increase in properties ‘Sold’ since September.

 Agency Express Comments

Commenting on the latest index results, Stephen Watson, Managing Director of Agency Express said:

Figures from February’s Property Activity Index have reported positively across the nation. Towards the end of 2014 many regions saw a down turn and struggled to regain pace. Last month I said that figures for properties ‘Sold’ had been slower to bounce back, but increases had been recorded which left us optimistic. This month’s figures have remained robust so hopefully we will see a positive turning point in the market.
